NES Vice President of General Counsel Recognized by NBJ’s Best of Bar 

Each year, the Nashville Business Journal invites nominations of lawyers in the city for the “Best of the Bar.”  This year, Laura Smith, Nashville Electric Service (NES) Vice President of General Counsel has been recognized as one of the “Best of the Bar.” 

The honorees are selected by their peers as being the best in their category.  Categories include Banking and Finance, Healthcare, Labor and Employment, Corporate Counsel, Litigation, Corporate and Securities, Real Estate, Criminal Law, Family Law and many others. 

Smith was recognized in the Corporate Counsel category. The Nashville Business Journal previously named her among the “Best of the Bar” in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. 

Ms. Smith is a recognized leader within the legal community. She served as president of the Nashville Bar Association in 2019 and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Nashville Bar Foundation. In 2018, she was admitted to the bar of the United States Supreme Court and was nominated for the 2021 Nashville Athena Awards. 

Smith has served as chair/president of the boards of a number of local organizations, including The Women’s Fund of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, FiftyForward, Cable, NeedLink Nashville, Women in Numbers (WIN), and the Nashville Women’s Political Caucus.  

She is currently a board member for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville and has previously served on the boards of the Center for Nonprofit Management, Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee, and Urban League of Middle Tennessee. She also serves on the Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage Board of Trustees, and is on the corporate board for the H.G. Hill Company.  

Ms. Smith is an alumna of Leadership Donelson-Hermitage (2003), Leadership Nashville (2008) and Leadership Tennessee (2020).
