NES Plans for the Future of Electric Vehicles with SmartCharge Nashville

Nashville Electric Service (NES) is preparing for a future filled with electric vehicles (EV) by asking for EV drivers to help collect information.

SmartCharge Nashville is a partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation (MTEMC) and FleetCarma to collect data on EV drivers in Middle Tennessee.

The research project will collect real-world information from 200 Nashville EV drivers using a small data logger. The device plugs into EV vehicles, unlocking important information about charger and battery use.

NES will use information about charging patterns to understand charging needs of EV drivers and what might be needed in the future to continue providing safe and reliable power.

Volunteers who participate in the SmartCharge Nashville program will receive $50 per year, ending in October 2020.
