“…the many women before me opened doorways that were closed just a few years before I was born or were still closed while I was a young woman.”
Having been born in the 60s, I have seen many firsts for women – the first female astronaut, the first female U.S. Supreme Court Justice, the first female Prime Minister in the United Kingdom and the first female attorney general. The Women’s Rights Movement has been prominent during my lifetime and resulted in laws for equal pay and Title IX, among others.
The struggles and sacrifices of the women before me are the reason for changes that have occurred. There is no single woman in history that influenced me, but rather the many women before me opened doorways that were closed just a few years before I was born or were still closed while I was a young woman. I remain in awe of their courage and tenacity every day.
