NES employee Kenneth Boyd recently visited his alma mater, Pearl Cohn High School, where he spoke to students about his journey towards a successful career in the utility industry. Boyd highlighted the importance of education and shared how gaining a deeper appreciation for its value led him to a successful career at NES.
Having previously walked the same paths as current Pearl Cohn students, Boyd felt empowered to share his testimony to help motivate and inspire students to pursue their dreams.
“These children have more distractions than I ever had when I was their age,” says Boyd, “I wanted them to know you can graduate from Pearl Cohn and achieve greatness. People sometimes stereotype Pearl Cohn, which may have negative effects on the students.”
Boyd, a North Nashville native, was part of Pearl Cohn’s first graduating class at the 26th Avenue North location in 1987. After graduating from high school, Boyd worked in the utility industry as a technician and an engineering technician. However, he knew he wanted to do more in the utility industry, but not having a degree made it difficult for him to progress. In 2018, Boyd enrolled in college at Tennessee State University, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. While earning his degree, he installed and repaired customer meters across Nashville as an Electronic Meter Technician at NES. Just a year after receiving his degree, Boyd became a full-time engineer at the utility.
In addition to serving as an Engineer, Boyd is a disc-jockey and owner of DJKB Services, a mobile disc-jockey business that allows him to travel and dj at various events. NES is proud to have Kenneth as a member of our utility. His commitment to empowering youth represents the utility’s dedication to serving the community and mentoring the next generation of leaders.
