Nashville Electric Service (NES) lineman, Nathan Edwards, was recently honored for using his professional climbing skills to rescue a stranded tree trimmer who was stuck more than 40 feet in the air.
NES received a dispatch call about the complex situation. Upon arrival, Edwards employed techniques similar to those he uses daily as a lineman, climbing up, securing the tree trimmer with a rope and safely lowering the person to the ground. With more than a decade of experience, Edwards received the Chief’s Citation Award from the Nashville Fire Department for performing the pole-top rescue to save the exhausted and dehydrated tree trimmer.
Despite the prestigious recognition from the fire department, Edwards remains humble about his life-saving actions. “When somebody’s stuck and nobody can actually help them, and you’re the one to go out there and actually save that person. I mean that’s a good feeling. Who wouldn’t feel good?” Edwards said.
This incredible act of bravery really shines a light on all of NES’s dedicated linemen. They’re working across our service area every single day, often facing tough and risky conditions to ensure our lights stay on and our communities remain powered. A huge thank you to Nathan and to every single lineman who works so hard to keep Nashville safe and connected!
