April 16-22 is Earth Week, with Earth Day being recognized on April 22. This year’s theme for Earth Day is “Our Power, Our Planet,” which focuses on supporting the tripling of renewable energy by 2030. The observance champions solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal and tidal-generated energy. NES is committed to offering sustainable, innovative and cost-efficient advanced energy resources to our customers. Here are some of the programs and resources NES offers that allow customers to go green:
Music City Solar
With Music City Solar, customers can enjoy the benefits of clean energy even if they don’t own their home or if their rooftop is shaded. When customers subscribe to one or more solar panels, they receive credit for the power generated by the panels on their electric bill each month.
Home Uplift
The Home Uplift program provides home energy upgrades that reduce utility costs for eligible homeowners, and all retrofits and renovations bear no cost to the customer. These sustainable changes are reducing poverty and carbon emissions in the region.
Electric Vehicle Incentives
Did you know that there are financial incentives for EVs? Thanks to local power companies, the state legislature and federal initiatives, several rebate and credit programs exist to save eco-conscious drivers money on clean vehicles and their equipment. The Clean Vehicle Credit allows those with a qualifying vehicle a tax credit of up to $7,500 through the IRS.
Green Switch
Small changes can add up, too. TVA’s Green Switch program allows all NES customers to purchase renewable energy for as little as $2 a month. Each $2 ensures that 200 kilowatt hours of clean, renewable energy is added to the valley’s electricity mix.
Green Connect
If customers are considering a solar installation at their home, Green Connect provides them with access to educational materials and a network of TVA-approved contractors to install their system.
NES will also attend Nashville’s Earth Day festival this Saturday, April 19 from 11 am – 5 pm at Centennial Park. The free event will feature engaging and educational activities from a variety of exhibitors and vendors, including local growers and makers, nonprofits, sustainable small businesses, and state/metro government agencies.
