NES VP and General Counsel Honored with “In My Life” Award 

NES Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel Laura Smith recently received the “In My Life” Award from local leadership organization L’Evate. 

Smith was honored with the award at the Gaylord Springs Golf Links, where nearly 200 attendees gathered to celebrate the accomplishment over dinner and dialogue. Decosta Jenkins, retired CEO and President of NES, Dr. LoLita Toney, Assistant Vice President at Tennessee State University and others gave remarks on their personal and professional relationships with Smith. The event was sponsored by the following organizations: NES; Wilson Bank and Trust; McCoy Law Firm; Neal & Harwell, PLC; The Nashville International Airport (BNA); FINN Partners; Kraft CPAs; and the Tristar Summit Medical Center. 

Smith oversees legal matters, government relations, strategic planning and community involvement for NES. She has not only displayed exceptional leadership within NES but has also proven herself to be a leader throughout the Middle Tennessee community. 

Smith, the 2019 president of the Nashville Bar Association, the largest metropolitan bar association in Tennessee, currently serves as the Chair of the Nashville Bar Foundation Board of Trustees. Since 2017, the Nashville Business Journal has recognized her as a member of the “Best of the Bar.” 

Smith has demonstrated extensive community leadership in various local organizations, serving as chair or president on multiple boards. Her roles have included leadership positions at The Women’s Fund of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, FiftyForward, Cable, NeedLink Nashville, Women in Numbers (WIN) and the Nashville Women’s Political Caucus. In addition to her chair position on the Nashville Bar Foundation board, Smith also serves as a board member for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville and the Andrew Jackson Foundation. Smith has previously contributed her expertise to the boards of the Center for Nonprofit Management, Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee and the Urban League of Middle Tennessee.
