NES celebrates its Operations Internship Program interns on National Intern Day

Interns everywhere are being recognized today in honor of National Intern Day. National Intern Day is a holiday created by WayUp that’s dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the future leaders, or interns, of the world. NES is invested in creating opportunities for young adults interested in careers in the utility industry. One of the ways NES delivers on this investment is through our robust Operations Internship Program.

The Operations Internship Program is focused on both skilled crafts of Electrician Apprentice and Lineman Apprentice. The program begins with a two-week detailed focus on safety including first-aid, CPR, AED, protective equipment, fire retardant clothing, job site hazard awareness, lifting techniques, forklift awareness, hazardous communication, emergency rescues, job site visits and a respirator fit-test. Each intern then rotates with work crews in the organization to learn level appropriate functions of overhead and underground aspects of the job, including knowledge and use of tools and equipment.  Each intern is evaluated and given feedback throughout the rotation.

In addition to our Operations Internship, NES offers summer and one-year internships across several departments, including Engineering, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology and Legal. NES recently graduated 10 students from its Operations Internship Program, in which at least 80% of interns are offered full-time employment after the program’s completion. The utility finds its interns at in-person recruiting events and career fairs and offers peer mentors to all interns enrolled in the program. Our interns are offered virtual and in-person learning opportunities, commuter benefits and volunteering opportunities.

Congrats to all of our recent NES Operations intern graduates and Happy National Intern Day to interns all over the world!
