NASHVILLE, TN – Nashville Electric Service (NES) has received a Certificate of Recognition from the U.S. Department of Energy for its participation in the Voluntary Reporting of Greenhouse Gases program. NES voluntarily monitors, documents and reduces the emission of greenhouse gases.
Nashville Electric Service has been involved with this program since 1996. Specifically, NES has been able to reduce its emission of greenhouse gases by converting older portions of the electric system, purchasing distribution transformers that are more efficient, and through the utility’s urban reforestation program. This work has resulted in an approximate seven percent reduction in emissions since their first report in 1996.
“This program is in concert with our environmental philosophy,” said Decosta Jenkins, NES President & CEO. “We want to voluntarily report and monitor our use. We are committed to searching for ways to reduce sources of greenhouse gases when possible.”
