NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has announced that it expects to hit a peak demand on its system as the result of an arctic cold front moving into the Valley region.
As a power distributor of TVA, Nashville Electric Service (NES) is asking customers to help reduce the strain on the electric system by conserving energy and limiting usage when possible. TVA has requested that both residential and commercial customers voluntarily lower their usage through Friday afternoon.
“We do not expect any problems in meeting our demand, nor does TVA,” said Decosta Jenkins, NES President & CEO. “We are simply asking customers to help conserve where they can to avoid putting excess strain on the electrical system, specifically between the hours of 6-10 a.m. and 5-8 p.m.”
There are several ways customers can help.
- Set your thermostat no higher than 68 degrees. Put on a cozy sweater and warm comfy socks to stay toasty. Add an extra blanket on your bed before going to sleep.
- Put off chores around the house until later. Do laundry, run the dishwasher and cook after 8 p.m., if possible.
- Turn off lights when you leave the room and unplug unused electronics.
- Keep your garage door closed as much as possible. This will help buffer any colder outdoor air from trickling into the home.
