Seven Metro Nashville Public Schools receive TVA School Uplift grant.

TVA recently granted seven schools in the NES service area with School Uplift funding. Antioch Middle School, Croft Middle School, Harpeth Valley Elementary School, Head Middle Magnet School, Hume-Fogg High School and Jones Elementary School all received $10,000 in funding, and Cole Elementary School received $25,000.

This year, NES partnered with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) EnergyRight program to help bring School Uplift to public schools in our service area.

School Uplift is a 12-month behavior-based energy management training program developed with the State of Tennessee’s Energy Efficient Schools Initiative. It helps public school districts make smart energy choices that improve the classroom learning environment and save money through decreased energy use. The program comes at no cost to the schools.

Participating schools have seen a multitude of benefits, including a 10% annual energy cost reduction, average annual savings of $13,000, better ventilation, brighter classrooms, and new LED lighting, amongst other benefits. When combined with energy savings from grant-funded upgrades, this year’s participants will save an estimated 9 GWh of energy or the amount of electricity used by 1,241 homes in one year.

In March, TVA’s School Uplift program was named an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year, the highest level of EPA recognition for partners that excel at energy management and meet various criteria, such as demonstrating best practices and organization-wide energy savings.

More than $3 million is invested in the program annually to help provide active energy management training such as strategic energy management, as well as competitive need-based grants that allow for much-needed energy upgrades. NES is proud to support schools in the region through energy efficiency training and grants that reduce energy costs with School Uplift.

The 2024-2025 School Uplift program will kick off this summer with up to 120 new schools enrolled.
