We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate a significant milestone: the graduation of our second talented cohort from the Operations Internship Program! These dedicated individuals are taking a major step this week, officially beginning their careers at NES as Apprentices—a moment that fills us with immense pride after watching their hard work and dedication over the past year.
The Operations Internship Program for aspiring electricians and lineworkers was launched two years ago with a clear mission: to create a direct and robust pathway for students in our service territory to launch successful careers in the skilled trades at NES. Implemented in partnership with Metro Nashville Public Schools and Charter Schools, this pilot program is our investment in providing young adults in the community with a clear opportunity toward a rewarding career.
Our program is specifically focused on developing both the Electrician Apprentice and Lineman Apprentice skilled crafts. It begins with an intensive two-week focus on safety, covering everything from first-aid, CPR and protective equipment to emergency rescues and job site hazard awareness. Following this foundation, each intern rotates with different work crews across the organization. They gain hands-on, level-appropriate experience in both overhead and underground aspects of the job, learning the essential knowledge and proper use of tools and equipment. Throughout their rotations, they receive continuous evaluation and feedback, ensuring they develop the core competencies needed to succeed.
An incredible program like this doesn’t succeed without teamwork. NES would like to extend a special thanks to the many employees and community members who were involved in implementing and ensuring the success of the Operations Internship Program. Through your guidance and support, internships like these are made more accessible and achievable for tomorrow’s young leaders.
Congratulations to all of our recent NES Operations intern graduates! We can’t wait to see the great work you’ll do.
