Powering a Smarter Future: NES Observes Energy Efficiency Day

Join NES in celebrating Energy Efficiency Day today, October 1! Each year on the first Wednesday of October, a growing network of advocates, companies, government agencies and utilities nationwide come together to highlight the many benefits of energy efficiency.

Our lives depend on energy, but our current usage contributes to climate-warming pollution. We need a way to reduce our environmental impact while keeping our economy vibrant. Energy efficiency is a powerful solution that benefits everyone.

What does energy efficiency do?

  • Creates jobs and boosts competitiveness. Energy efficiency supports more than 2.2 million jobs in the U.S., more than twice the number in the coal, gas and oil industries combined. It also cuts operating costs, helping American manufacturers stay competitive globally.
  • Builds security and reliability. By reducing our overall energy demand, we can limit our reliance on energy imports and reduce the impact of volatile oil and gas prices. This also eases the strain on our power grid, making it more reliable.
  • Saves money and advances equity. Efficiency standards for appliances save the average U.S. household about $500 each year. Energy-saving appliances and home upgrades are especially beneficial for low-income households, who often spend a larger portion of their income on energy.
  • Protect health and comfort. Properly insulated homes and buildings keep out drafts and harmful pollutants, improving indoor air quality and overall comfort.
  • Reduces pollution and combats climate change. By using less energy and generating cleaner power, we reduce harmful emissions from burning fossil fuels. This helps everyone, especially low-income communities and communities of color that are disproportionately affected by pollution and climate change.

NES is committed to making forward-thinking investments in energy savings, benefiting Nashville with a focus on clean energy. Smarter energy use means we don’t have to generate as much power to meet our community’s needs. We offer a range of energy-efficient programs for our customers to take advantage of:

  • Electric vehicles (EVs) – Switching to an EV can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality and decrease your reliance on fossil fuels. To learn more about affordability, buying options and charging information, visit NESPower.com
  • Renewable and solar energy programs – In partnership with TVA, NES offers renewable energy programs that harness the power of natural resources.
  • Music City Solar: The site of Nashville’s first community solar park was once a landfill off I-65. It now features 17,020 solar panels available to participating customers, marking a major step toward providing clean, efficient and maintenance-free energy.
  • NESolar Programs: Our NESolar programs help both residential and commercial customers maximize the potential of their own solar arrays.
  • NES Clean Energy – Take advantage of our helpful tools to track your current energy consumption and learn how you can start saving on your monthly bill.

Beyond our customer programs, NES is committed to sustainability. Our field employees use a fleet of ethanol and biodiesel vehicles, we use renewable transformer oil and we prioritize recycling and reusing equipment and supplies. We’re proud to be a leader in the industry.
