NES observes National STEM/STEAM Day

Careers in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics are essential to the functionality of the utility industry. That’s why it’s important to highlight career opportunities for younger generations interested in STEM/STEAM fields. We’re thrilled to recognize those careers today to inspire students to pursue opportunities in STEM while fostering a passion for problem-solving, and highlighting the role STEM plays in driving innovation and economic growth.

National STEM/STEAM Day came about after studies in the early 2000s revealed that U.S. students were not excelling in the STEM disciplines at the same rate as students in other countries. Since then, growth in America’s STEM jobs has tripled the growth in non-STEM jobs, but racial and gender gaps have persisted. Celebrating STEM/STEAM Day helps bridge those gaps, aiming to create a more inclusive future that incorporates and recognizes scientific and technological advancements from people of any gender, background, race or identity.

One of the ways NES works to engage youth in the STEM/STEAM fields is by creating opportunities for students to connect with our employees through career fairs and internships. Through these opportunities, we help youth develop the skills, connections and knowledge needed to pursue careers in STEM/STEAM.

Happy National STEM/STEAM Day!
