NES Observes Hunger Action Month by Glowing Orange

The Nashville Electric Service downtown dome building will glow orange throughout September 16 in observance of Hunger Action Month.

Hunger Action Month is an annual nationwide campaign that raises awareness and encourages communities to take action against hunger and food insecurity. The color orange symbolizes this effort, which promotes actions like volunteering, donating and hosting food drives.

Hunger in America: Quick Facts

  • 50 million people turned to food banks for help last year.
  • Food insecurity exists in 100% of U.S. counties.
  • Families with children are 1.5 times more likely to face hunger.
  • In some rural areas, child hunger rates are as high as 50%.

In Middle Tennessee, approximately one in eight people experience food insecurity—that’s 409,990 individuals who don’t know where their next meal will come from. NES is proud to join Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee and other businesses in “Going Orange” on Hunger Action Day, September 9, to highlight this critical issue.
