NES Delivers Nashville’s Christmas Tree to Public Square Park

Every year, Nashville’s Christmas tree in Public Square Park shines bright with beautiful lights and decorations, marking the start of the Christmas holiday season.NES is once again getting into the Christmas spirit by delivering Nashville’s official Christmas tree, continuing a cherished tradition that the utility has participated in for years.

The annual lighting ceremony, where the Nashville Mayor illuminates the magnificent tree, is a highly anticipated event. Leading up to this ceremony, NES plays an integral role in a vital partnership with Metro Nashville Parks and Recreation. Together, they are responsible for the challenging task of sourcing, cutting down and safely delivering the chosen tree to Public Square Park.

This year, the Christmas tree comes from Mt. Juliet, graciously donated by resident Christie Jenkins. The magnificent Norway Spruce has been lovingly nurtured by the Jenkins family for 15 years. Christie shared that her husband had a tradition of planting their Christmas tree following the holiday each year, resulting in their home being surrounded by a variety of beautiful, towering trees, some reaching up to 80 feet tall. The family had previously attempted to donate one of their beloved trees, contacting the City of Mt. Juliet, only to find that they used artificial trees for their display. Sadly, Christie’s husband passed away last November and never got to see one of their trees used as a public Christmas tree. When Christie saw the story shared by Metro Nashville Parks and Recreation seeking a donation, she was excited and jumped at the opportunity to honor her husband’s memory.

This week, NES crews went to the Jenkins residence where they carefully cut the tree down. They then undertook the delicate journey to drive the tree downtown and successfully mounted it in Public Square Park, where it now stands tall, awaiting its illumination.

Save the Date

The annual tree lighting ceremony is open to the public and will take place at Public Square Park on Friday, December 5 at 6 p.m. Come join the community and watch as Nashville’s Christmas season officially begins!
