Every year, Nashville’s Christmas tree in Public Square shines bright with beautiful lights and decorations just ahead of the Christmas holiday. The Nashville Mayor lights the tree during an annual ceremony and NES plays an integral role leading up to the event. NES and Metro Nashville Parks and Recreation are responsible for sourcing, cutting down and delivering the tree to Public Square Park just ahead of the lighting ceremony.
This year, the Reed family in Brentwood donated their nearly 30-foot-tall tree to stand on display in the downtown area. The tree, a Norway spruce with about a 16-foot diameter, has been nurtured by the Reed family since they moved into their home in 2008. Every year, Stephen and Diane Reed would decorate the tree until it became too large to manage. Stephen and Diane both heard that Metro Nashville Parks and Recreation were requesting a tree donation for the city’s holiday celebration, so they decided to donate the Norway Spruce. This week, NES went to the Reed residence where crews cut the tree down, drove the tree downtown and mounted it, where it will be lit soon.
The annual tree lighting ceremony is open to the public and will take place at Public Square Park on Friday, December 6 at 6 pm.
