NES Assists Neighbors in Need Following Hurricane Devastation

Hurricane Helene and Milton left devastation across several states in the Southern Region of North America, including parts of Tennessee. Newport Utilities in Newport, Tennessee provides electric and water services to the area, and they experienced major damage to both their electrical and water treatment systems. The water treatment system allows the utility to circulate treated water to Newport customers, so water services were greatly impacted following the storms.

NES employees remain committed to helping other utilities in need, especially after a natural disaster or widespread emergency occurs. This time was no different as NES employees came together to donate and deliver drinking water to those affected in the Newport area. NES successfully delivered more than 150 cases of drinking water to Newport, Tennessee.

In addition to helping out fellow Tennesseans, NES also sent contract crews across state lines to help with recovery efforts in other parts of the United States, like North Carolina and Florida. Crews worked tirelessly for days on end to help clear debris, repair and replace damaged infrastructure and restore power to customers in need.

According to a Florida resident who crossed paths with some of NES’ contract crews, it was an honor for the Florida community to “interact with true heroes” who represented Elliott Electric and NES well, arrived with a cheerful attitude and proved “their unselfish love of their jobs and the strangers they were in Florida helping.”

A major shoutout to all NES contract crews who courageously left home to help bring power back to impacted communities following the devastation from Hurricane Helene. The hard work, skill and dedication of all of our crews is widely cherished and respected. Those impacted by Hurricane Helene and Milton remain in our thoughts and prayers.
