Get Involved for International Volunteer Day

Today is International Volunteer Day, where volunteers are recognized and volunteerism is conducted at local, national and international levels. International Volunteer Day, commonly called IVD, is celebrated on December 5 every year. It started as an international observance mandated by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 1985. By combining UN support with a grassroots mandate, IVD is a unique opportunity for people and volunteer-involving organizations to work with government agencies, non-profit institutions, community groups, academia and the private sector.

Year-round, NES employees volunteer to serve the Middle Tennessee community in various ways. Career days, school visits, donation and supply drives, workshops and tabling events across the NES service area are just a few of the ways NES works to give back to our community.

Through volunteer work, NES cultivates community partnerships that lead to projects and initiatives that promote the overall betterment of the populations the utility serves.

Get involved with International Volunteer Day by finding volunteer work around the Nashville community. Whether it’s feeding the unhoused, walking dogs, painting a community mural or helping a senior citizen around their home, volunteering helps us all live healthier, more sustainable lives.
