February 16-22 is National Engineers Week! National Engineers Week is dedicated to raising public awareness of engineers’ positive contributions to quality of life. It promotes recognition among parents, teachers and students of the importance of technical education and math, science, and technology literacy. Engineers Week motivates youth to pursue engineering careers to provide a diverse and vigorous engineering workforce. Each year, the week reaches thousands of schools, businesses and community groups across the U.S.
Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, National Engineers Week has since grown a formal coalition of more than 70 engineering, education and cultural societies, and more than 50 corporations and government agencies. This year’s theme is “Design Your Future,” which serves as both a call to action and a celebration of the limitless possibilities in engineering. All engineers are encouraged to dream boldly, innovate relentlessly and create a future shaped by our collective ingenuity.
Here are some ways to participate in “Design Your Future”:
- Support Career Growth. Offer mentorship, skill-building workshops and resources for college students and early-career engineers.
- Reflect and Inspire. Encourage professionals to set personal goals and envision how they can drive future advancements.
- Engage the Next Generation. Inspire K-12 students to envision their role in solving global challenges through engineering. Help them see how engineering equips them with the skills to shape a better future.
- Host Interactive Workshops. Organize career panels, hands-on activities and Q&A sessions to showcase diverse paths in engineering.
- Share Inspiring Stories. Highlight engineers making a difference in sustainability, healthcare, or technology.
- Volunteer and Mentor. Participate in programs like Future City to encourage students to design innovative solutions to today’s challenges.
- Classroom Visits: Lead hands-on engineering activities to spark curiosity and creativity.
- Use the hashtag #Eweek2025. Post photos of your team, engineering projects and even selfies! Share a message about engineering’s vital role in innovating solutions to global challenges, the value of engineers, or engaging students in engineering.
- Tell a friend. Do your colleagues, friends and family know about Engineers Week and what your plans are for celebrating? Tell them and let them join in the fun.
Engineers remain at the forefront of addressing rapid technological advancements, societal shifts and global challenges. Their critical work is reshaping how we live, work and connect, with breakthroughs in renewable energy, circular economy, artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous systems, gene editing, urban planning and the utility industry.
