Summer is the best time for outdoor cooking and this month marks National Grilling Month! We’re sharing grill safety tips to ensure you enjoy hassle-free grilling all summer long.
Cooking inside using an oven not only uses energy – it also generates extra heat inside your home, causing your HVAC unit to work harder to keep your home cool. Instead, you can keep the hot air outside and lessen your energy usage by grilling outdoors using a gas, electric or charcoal grill.
Before you fire up your grill, consider these important safety tips:
- Propane and charcoal grills should only be used outdoors and at least three feet from siding, deck rails and eaves.
- Keep your grill clean to remove grease buildup and prevent fires.
- Make sure your gas grill lid is open before lighting it.
- Keep a three-foot safe zone around your grill to protect children and pets.
- When you’re finished grilling, let the coals completely cool before disposing in a metal container. For gas grills, don’t forget to turn off the gas.
- Don’t leave your grill unattended when it is lit.
Happy National Grilling Month!
