NES is recognizing all skilled tradespersons, both men and women, for National Tradesmen Day. National Tradesmen Day was founded in 2011 and takes place on the third Friday of September. The observance exists to highlight the professionals who work hard to build the communities in which we live, work and play. Tradesmen maintain the complex infrastructure of our roads, cities, water systems and power grids.
The term “trades” refers to an occupation that requires a very specific skill set and education, like mechanics, plumbers, masons, welders, carpenters and of course, electricians. Skilled tradesmen and women typically get started learning on the job or earning a certification from a trade-specific school, which typically takes less time than earning a four-year bachelor’s degree from college. Tradespersons are responsible for building houses, managing energy infrastructure, serving as first responders and police officers, and helping in the medical field. Because of their tireless efforts, our nation continues to operate efficiently, without pause.
The skills and knowledge of those in the trades keep businesses, homes, and entire nations running. As our country grows and qualified workers retire, the demand for skilled workers is increasing on a daily basis. Skilled trades are one of the fastest-growing sectors in the job market today. To show your appreciation, use #NationalTradesmenDay to post on social media and give a shout out to the tradespeople keeping businesses and homes running smoothly.
