Many customers are also still working from home and consequently using more energy daily. Practicing these daily energy saving tips around the home also help keep electricity bills under control.

  1. Instead of turning the lights on during the day, use natural sunlight to brighten up your home by opening up your curtains and blinds.
  2. As the weather starts to warm up, your thermostat should go up too. Keep it close to the temperature outside to save the most energy.
  3. If you have hot food leftovers, allow the food to cool before storing it in the refrigerator. Hot foods will raise the temperature in the fridge, making it work harder to stay cool.
  4. Larger appliances like your washer, dryer and dishwasher use a substantial amount of energy. Combine loads or wash dishes by hand to save energy.
  5. When washing clothes, save energy by filling up your loads and using cold water when possible!
  6. Dust absorbs about 50% of light – you can dust your light fixtures and bulbs to get the most out of their brightness.
  7. As we eat at home more, that means more dirty dishes to clean up. If using a dishwasher, skip the drying cycle and allow them to air-dry.
  8. Keep your house cooler during the day by using washers, dryers and dishwashers at night.
  9. When you leave a room, make sure to turn off the lights.
  10. When your phone and electronic devices are fully charged, unplug the cable from the power source. Chargers can use energy even when they’re not connected to a device.
  11. Use a power strip for your electronic devices and flip it off when you’re away to stop the energy flow
  12. Working on some home improvement projects? Make sure all leaks and holes in your home are caulked and filled to avoid letting in hot air.
